Western food aid programs in the long run has hurt poor people in third world countries than they actually help. Feeding a starving person is a very great thing to do. However, when you make such person depends on you for every meal for the rest of his/her life then it becomes a tragic situation. If the rich countries were so concern about helping poor countries, they should help them cultivate the land and set irrigation so they can feed their citizens on their own. The dependency on foreign is destructive for any economy.. When citizens no longer engage in the development of their own country, because they are waiting on food aid from overseas, you end up with a country that is unable to sustain itself in the long run.. - Help set irrigation, train people to cultivate the land, education and independence are the only options for any nation to survive.
